Actually got some responses myself.....
Mark,
I am of the opinion that there should be no new legislation
establishing
fees, fines and registration costs before there is a riding facility
made available for OHV's. It is also my opinion that the state should
fulfill the commitment made by Commissioner Campbell in 2002. It seems
inappropriate to increase regulation and enforcement when there has
been
no place established to operate your vehicles.
I have been in contact with Commissioner Jackson regarding this matter
and will have my staff continue to monitor the situation.
Thank you for contacting me.
Regards,
Mike Doherty
Assembly Member Michael Doherty
New Jersey General Assembly,
State House PO Box 098
Trenton, NJ

This next one is a bit generic, but hey, it's a reply.
Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding the Pinelands Preservation
Alliance`s letter and comprehensive OHV legislation. Senator Vitale
appreciates hearing from you on this very important issue.
Senator Shirley K. Turner has introduced Senate Bill 2015, which
requires the DEP to designate one site in one State park or forest
where
all-terrain vehicles may be used. The bill was introduced on June 18,
2006 and currently sits in the Senate Environment Committee. Senator
Vitale is not a member of this Committee, but will review this
legislation.
Once again, thank you for your e-mail with respect to this issue.
Matt Cassidy
Director of Communications
Office of Senator Joseph Vitale
(732) 855-7441
The last one too, but again, a reply none-the-less.....
Dear Mr. M~~~:
Thank you for your e-mail correspondence on the topic of the lack of
off
road facilities for enthusiasts such as yourself. We would like to
apprise you of the information that we have received in this regard.
It would appear that Commissioner Lisa Jackson of the Department of
Environmental Protection (DEP) is reviewing the off road vehicle issue,
as well as her predecessor's policy directives in this area. As you
may know, former-Commissioner Campbell had issued a policy directive in
2002 that included the goal of having two new facilities in operation
for 2005. This policy goal further provided that no current State
park,
wildlife management area or other environmentally sensitive area would
be considered in the review and selection for a new facility.
In 2005, the DEP Green Acres program purchased the Sahara Sand property
(the site of the former Sahara Sand Mine) in Monroe Township,
Gloucester
County, with the intent of creating an OHV facility on that location.
Concerns about using the property for an OHV facility have been raised
by the adjacent town (Buena Vista Township, Atlantic County). Adjacent
property owners have also voiced concerns to the DEP and to the papers.
The DEP has spoken to the Pinelands Commission concerning the project,
and is currently working on the wetlands delineations and endangered
species surveys necessary to be completed in order to prepare
applications for the Pinelands Commission.
Lastly, our research has indicated that the development of the "New
Jersey Motorsports Park," in Millville may be of future help to off
road
vehicle enthusiasts. A press article from the Atlantic City Press
concerning the Governor's signing of A-3835/S-11 (Authorizes creation
of
sports and entertainment district and imposition of additional taxes
therein to finance development of sports and entertainment facilities.)
describes the project as including four different motorsports
facilities
to be constructed in different phases. An all-terrain vehicle course
is to be included as one of the four facilities. According to the
article, construction for the park is slated to begin in the spring,
and
the park is scheduled to open for business by spring 2008. It is not
clear from the article if the all-terrain vehicle course would be open
by spring 2008 or just the first phase of the project.
We hope that this information is helpful to you and again, we
appreciate
your writing to us with your concerns.
Sincerely,
Senator Thomas H. Kean, Jr.
Assemblyman Eric Munoz, M.D.

Hey Mark I got the same 3 replies and as you said the one from Assemblyman Doherty`s office was sincere the other 2 just the norm. I did respond to the response from Doherty`s office and got a phone call from his chief of staff which he followed up with some info in the mail. We may have a bit of an allie there.....We shall see.
PS Mark,
I hope you were not the only one on this board who took action.......

Hey guys, whenever I do these action alerts I get feedback that it didn't go to the right legislators... If we keep bugging the wrong people in the wrong districts it won't get us any brownie points... Does anybody know who to contact to fix this? I wind up spending a lot of time trying to correct it. This guy was nice this time and gave me the email addresses for the right people to contact, but last time I wasn't so lucky.

jcelantano,
I got the same reply from Pennacchio`s Office. I am the right person to contact for the NJOHVA action alerts...
To answer your question "Hey guys, whenever I do these action alerts I get feedback that it didn't go to the right legislators... If we keep bugging the wrong people in the wrong districts it won't get us any brownie points... Does anybody know who to contact to fix this? I wind up spending a lot of time trying to correct it. This guy was nice this time and gave me the email addresses for the right people to contact, but last time I wasn't so lucky" My answer is we are all NJ residents and he is a NJ Assemblyman you may not be a constituent of his nor am I but I feel he needs to hear from all NJ residents not just the ones who vote for him. On the Get Active program I can check of reply just to individuals legislators which would mean each of us would write to just 2 Assemblymen and 1 Senator, I do not feel we would get the same impact do you ???? If I am wrong I would like feedback...So you know your Assemblymen and Senator would have also got the same letter you sent, so if you did it again individually they got it twice..The main importance to this is if that particular legislator sits on a committee that will likely hear a bill in regards to OHV we want him to know how many of us there are... This guy was just putting it off.
Here are 2 more I got back:They are both pretty good but read the second one which really addresses the question of who to send it to, he is not my Assemblyman but he is saying it is important for the public to contact their legislators.

Hey JP - Thanks for clearing that up. I didn't understand that ALL the legislators get our emails... sorry! I thought my zip code in the system was assigned to the wrong people/district, and that the right ones weren't getting any emails from me at all (they never responded!).
Now that I know all of them are getting the messages, things make more sense.
Thanks,
Joe

(This is re-posted from an email I just received..EVERYONE NEEDS TO CALL ASAP)
Hey All,
You need to get on the phone and call these state Senators ASAP like TODAY! They all sit on the State Transportation Committee and are the ones that will move the bill to the Senate floor for voting.
WE NEED TO KILL THIS BILL IN COMMITTEE BEFORE IT GETS TO THE FLOOR!!!!!!!!! (It's going on the floor Monday)
DON'T EMAIL THEM! PICK UP THE PHONE! (Calling Hours 9-5?)
Let them know that Senate Bill, No.S1278 is flawed and doesn’t address the real problem. This bill is only going to create more rules that the state doesn’t have the resources to enforce.
Let them know that there are Federal government programs available that provide funding to educate and open OHV parks.
Let them know that if the state doesn’t open the parks by the end of the year New Jersey is going to have to give back millions of dollars to the federal government that they excepted from the Recreational Trails Program and those dollars were used for every state trail program over the last five years or so.
Let them know that Senate Bill, No.s1278 is a huge mistake and that you are opposed to it!
Please Note: Be very polite and easy going when calling. You don't need to "blast" the person answering the phone, they are just volunteers. Just to let you know!!!
P.S. Below are the links of everyone that you need to CALL!!!!!!
I had a nice 15 Min. conversation with a nice, polite, volunteer. Her response to the things listed above were positive (meaning she didn't know there is NO place to ride legally) and she really felt their was 2 sides to this story!!
