Riding On Lk Hopatcong

was wondering if any one would be interested in a ice run on lk hopatcong . seen some snowmobiles and quads out there this weekend and i know of some trails only accessable when water is low or frozen . you would need reg. and ins also i believe a pfd is required state may be patrolling .

what is pfd? i might be interested in the near future, not this weekend though im out of town.

Hey Mark,
To answer you questions,
Yes, you have to be registered and insured and wear a cost guard approved life jacket and a DOT approved helmet.
And yes, the New Jersey State Police do patrol the ice. I don’t know what they’re riding but I was BSing with a park ranger two years ago in the parking lot and he informed me that they are out there.
It’s a nice ride for a few hours, then it gets a tad boring riding around in circles. Never the less, let me know when you’re going, I’d like to join you.

I have been wanting to ride on Lake Hopatcong but my only problem is how do u get on the lake. More so in the area of were my mom's place is. She lives in one of the cove's and it is a big area to ride on. I always see atv's and snowmobiles out on the ice. I just can't get on!!! But if you are going to an area that you can get on then cool. But I can only do it this weekend due to next weekend my atv's maybe sold!

Seeing that riding on ice is legal, can't we park in the state lot and drive onto the lake using the boat ramp?

That’s what we do, park in the state park, unload and drive right onto the ice.

i dont know if we could use the state park as a launch area . the beach is there and i dont know if they will let us ride on it to get to the ice . anyone got a friend in the state pd
