Petronas and BRP sign an agreement to develop a high-performance engine family

Engines to be developed and manufactured at BRP-Rotax in Austria

Valcourt, Quebec, Canada/Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, November 30, 2005 - Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) and Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP) have signed a joint development agreement (JDA) to design, develop and commercialise a family of high-performance engines.

Under the terms of the agreement, BRP-Rotax will carry out the work in its Gunskirchen, Austria facility starting November 2005.

In business for more than 85 years, BRP-Rotax is recognized worldwide as a leader in the development and manufacturing of engines for the motorized recreational vehicles industry. BRP-Rotax's core competencies include developing and launching market-shaping engines as well as integrating state-of-the-art engine technologies and engine applications destined to a wide range of recreational markets. With this agreement, BRP is looking forward to developing a long-term partnership with PETRONAS.

PETRONAS' venture into the world of motorsports has led it to gaining many spin-off benefits in terms of technology advancement and know-how, and resulting in technical deliverables such as the E01 engine, the GP1 motorcycle engine, the FP1, Malaysia's first superbike and finally, the K200 engine for go-kart applications. PETRONAS continues to seek cooperation with a strong partner who has vast experiences in engine technology and in engine commercialization.
