Ok, the feds, the state, the media, the greenies and even us all agree that kids should definately take the ATVSI safety class. The only problem is that nobody freakin offers it. What a freakin joke. They make laws and then you try and try and try to follow them and look out for the safety of your kids and all you get is aggravation and some guy in Minnesota or somewhere giving the same reasons why the kids classes are in like friggin Idaho and only like once a year on the day the moon rises 6 minutes after the dog star farts or something like that. Ok, that was a little weird but ya get the point. I see that I am not the only frustrated parent on this site either. Here is what my (sometimes dimented) brain has congered up. What if we got a group together on our own and hired an instructor directly to conduct a private class. The ATVSI is 75 per kid and I am pretty sure they get a cut of that. What if we paid the 75 directly to the instructor? If anybody knows one or is one and has interest in helping keep our kids safe and the parents away from oxycodine, please feel free to either post here or pm me directly.
Hope this pans out.

Cheese,
One problem there, instructors cannot set up there own classes without ASI and every attendee gets a card signed by the liscenced instructor and a copy of it must be sent to headquarters and registered. So there is no getting around ASI. sO IF SOMEONE SAYS THEY WILL DO IT BE CAUTIOUS... And they will not be insured thru ASI when holding the class.... I will look into holding a kids class.. How many , I think for kids classes max is 6 and cc size must be followed.....under 70 cc 6 and older 70-90 cc 12 and older..

I'm trying to get all my Trail Rangers certified at our park.
But we ran into problems too, like no one getting back to us.
If I can get my guys certified, I would hold classes at the park.
In the meantime, if someone is already certified, talk to me,
we can set up classes for everyone.

My argument is still the same, my 13 year old is too tall for a 90cc machine. She currently rides a 250 and I am happy with the way she handles it. I believe they need to redo the age/cc thing.

The age restriction is there for two reasons:
1- to try and protect children from their parents who decide a 9 year old can take the Raptor for a ride around the block and
2- to protect the manufacturers from being sued out of business because nobody told the parent in writing in reason 1 about how it is unsafe to put a little kid on a big bike.
Either way, if it saves one little kid from being harmed, it is worth the aggravation.
btw - There are some really nice 110cc atvs out there now that have a full size frame and would satisfy the restrictions.

Thanks Cheese....Well said. Alot of young kids can (are able to) ride a 250cc machine I think besides points mentioned by cheeseburger although your 9 yr. old can ride it can she if put in a bad situation off camber or something.. are they able to throw the machine away from them so they are not crushed by it. That is the # 1 way youths and for that matter adults are badly injured by big machines. You only get that from strenth and experience of age and fast thinking...
PS I am not saying these requirements are right or wrong but they do have a purpose...

I am both an ATV Safety Institute, Licensed Safety Instructor and a PA DCNR Safety Instructor. PA has some different guidelines then ASI. I can teach all of them for $50.00 per student. Just depends where you live. I am in Chester County, PA. Where are you?
