Bad golf swing is stroke of luck for injured biker

(10/12/07) NEW BRUNSWICK -

A bad golf swing for one man turned into a stroke of luck for an injured dirt biker in Monroe.

Mark Franz, 46, was riding his dirt bike near the Forsgate Country Club when he crashed into a tree Wednesday. Police say Franz spent more than 17 hours in the woods near the railroad tracks before Dr. Vincent Romeo heard his cries for help.

Romeo says he shanked his shot during his golf game. According to Romeo, when he went to take his second shot, he heard faint cries for help. He spotted Franz near the tracks and called for help.

Franz suffered a broken arm, ribs and leg. He is currently in fair condition at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
