I recently purchased an 08 kawasaki prairie 360. I rode several before making my decision, including the bigger boys, i.e., brute force 650, polaris, suzuki. The prairie was just the right fit for me. I did a ton of research and could never get an accurate top speed. People said anywhere from 35 to 40. Even the salesman said 30-35. Since it didn't come w/ a speedometer I had no way of knowing, I knew it was fast enough for me, but just had to know the top speed. I pulled out the ol' GPS last night and got up to 44.7 on flat pavement, I tested it first in my regular vehicle to make sure the speed was reading accurately. Why is there such a discrepancy? Is it the alititude that you're running your machine or what? Mine is bone stock. Does that mean that if I add a K&N airfilter and maybe a performance pipe I can expect more, since my baseline is higher than what I've been able to find on the net?

thanks

Wound out to the limits, 44mph doesn't seem to far fetched. My Arty Cat 300 has a speedo and it will get up to about 45mph with a little downhill help on pavement.
