I'm thinking about buying a helmet cam to record my atv trips. Can anyone recommend a model for me? I don't know a thing about them. I want to get a kit that has everything I need to be able to record. My cap is about $300.00. I would really appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks,
T.R.

I made a mount to bolt to my front rack. We wrapped packing foam around a handi cam, and bungied it into the cradle that I made. The results were great. The footage makes the viewer feel like they are along for the ride. I know that's not the feedback you were looking for, but it is an alternative.

Here's a link to a clip of the footage we took.

That looks like something I could rig up. I've been looking at cams but there pretty pricey for a decent one. Might use your idea till I can save enough to get the cam I want. Thanks for your input..

We have run many cameras. We have had mini dvr's and camcorders. The best footage we have, is form the camcorders with a high res bullet camera. We have had them connected to our helmets and connected to our handle bars. helmets stay cleaner and has less vibration. The only draw back is when you move your helmet. The biggest thing is never put the camcorder or dvr on the quad, they will get beat up bad... Make sure you can convert the video to your computer because many of them suck!!!!! Make sure the camera is low res with 480 to 540 lines in color. Cmos is a cheaper camera.... A good high res. color at 540 lines is about 125.00 wholesale.... one more thing battery life for the mic and the camera will be a pain.

Right now we are running sony Camcorder, Mic, Lanc to turn the camcorder on when running, a good camera and an extra larger battery for the camcorder. plus the battery for the mic and the camera.

Camcorder $175 to $300 used to new.
Camera $125.00
Extra battery for camcorder $30.00
Lanc $50.00
Special right angle cord for video in $50.00
Mic $40.00
Water proof case $35.00
battery for mic and camera $15.00

One day soon we will go to a HD camcorder...

Buy a cheap kit and work up....
