I am looking for some advice. A couple months ago I bought a 42" Plasma. Now I want to add the surround sound system to enhance the movie and gaming experience :doublerocker:

I am looking at the PolkAudio soundbar for ease of installation and no wires to run throughout the room. Does anyone have any knowledge of how these sound? Should I suck it up and run the wire for the full 5 speakers? Would I regret taking the easy way out?
Thanks

Wireless is great if you live alone!!! I purchased a wireless system from Sony and every time someone turns on the microwave or a blow dryer or anything of this nature the sound becomes so distorted you can not stand to have the system on. I hauled it back to Best Buy and got a fully wired system. 1000 watts sounds terrific. Sometimes you think the bullets are coming right through the walls.

Polk speakers are pretty good, I had them in my Jeep and a friend of mine has them for his home entertainment system. They perform well and sound good. But Dave if you are interested in getting good sound quality I'd go with the wired hook up and get the 5 or 7 speaker system to get the realistic sound, you won't regret it. The best part of most movies is the sound track and how you can hear sounds from behind you, next to you, and things ripping through the room.

Not sure how big the room is but I would get at least a 10 inch sub woofer, and a brand name receiver/amp. I found all my stuff on sale I think I paid $500 for the whole thing 625 watts, I got sony amp, KFM speapers and subwoofer. After some tuning it sounds great, gives me goosebumps sometimes during movies, Plus it is so loud my wife complains when I crank it becuase the glasses rattle in the kitchen cabinets. It also brings a whole different feel to the games we play on the PS3, when you crash or blow something up you feel it.

Just my opion hope it helps

I have thought about the sound bar too, but really how much bass can you have from something like that. If it were me I would also buy a powered sub, because if the room aint shaken when something explodes in a movie or on my game I aint happy. I haven't been curious enough yet to see how one of those sound bars seperates, thats a concern I have. I want to hear the dogs barking behind me, the cars racing left to right, and I want to hear and feal the loud explosion when the car drives off a cliff and finally hits the ground!!!!! I have 5 speaker, but it would be nice if one could do most of the audio. I would still need a big powered sub for my taste. You should go listen to one of those, (and me too) and judge for yourself. But I think you would really want a sub to. I also have a 42" LCD and with big screen you need big sound. Thats what I think anyways. I run a Onkyo reciever (120 watts a channel 5 channels), 2 Yamaha towers with 12" woofers, 2 Yamaha bookshelf speakers ( best bang for your buck at a $100 a pair), and a Advent center channel speaker. I would like to get a 12" or 15" powered sub, but I haven't yet. Good luck!!!!!

I bought a Polk Audio and Yamaha HTS 9405 5.1 CH Home Theater Package for $699 on newegg.com
Comes with the Yamaha receiver 4 Polk Audio speakers and subwoofer. Great package, excellent price! Receiver has 2 HDMI inputs and 1 output. I can plug my DVD and Cable box right into the receiver :doublerocker:

I will review it when I get it and test it

Hi Dave,
I bought Axion Speakers Powered with a Harmon Kandon Receiver. 5.1 Surround sound. This is a Canadian Co that Only sells over the net.
http://www.axiomaudio.com/ The sound is fantastic. These are not cheap speakers but for the price they are truly superior to any
other around. I have their Epic 350 System. Our cat hates thunder and if we are watching a program with thunder and lightling, she goes and
hides. The sound is very realistic. They even give you 30 days to try them out. If you don't like them you can send them back.

We decided to up grade our system within the 30 days and they paid all the shipping and let us keep using the speakers we orginally ordered
until the new upgrade arrived.

Check them out.

David,

Polk Audio and Yamaha makes some very good stuff. Karmen Harden, Bose and a few others that I can't recall their names are also good. You should be impressed with what you got.
