My son has a 2000 Honda 250 Recon and he telling me that the transmission is slipping. He states that it seems to happen ( intermittently) when he's in 3rd gear. It pops out of gear then it goes back in gear. He doesn't mention of hearing any gear grinding noise. Any help or suggestions before I take it in for professional help? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

You may need to have the clutch adjusted I know it is internal I am not sure how to do it? Maybe check the fluids?

That info is avialable in the shop manual for your quad. That should not be a hard thing to fix. They are usually around 25 bucks on E-bay and can save you big $$$ by doing it yourself.

Good Luck

a worn or improperly adjusted clutch will definatly cause slippage as you describe ... however, it will NOT cause the trans to shift in and out of gear on its own ... third gear is the problem in most Honda transmissions ... many times the only way to find the exact nature of the problem is a complete tear down ...
