2005 400EX Article

"Honda Unveils Redesigned 2005 400EX
Honda realized the importance of keeping convenience in its line of sport quads. To do this, Honda redesigned its aging 400EX to be more appealing to the average sport rider. The result is a more complete quad and an option for those Honda loyalists who can't afford or don't yearn for a 450R. Electric start, reverse and a proven powerplant goes a long way in this day and age."

Yea wouldnt want it to be blowing out first and second gear (raptor) or bending a-arms and stalling 15 miles from your truck cause the battery goes dead (YFZ) but yes it is a honda LMFAO

And dont forget why we have the 450R, YFZ, Z400, Pred, Cannondales and all the other sport quads to choose between now.

Hey seriously it has been needing some updating for a long while now, and just because they didnt take almost 20 years like the warrior doesnt mean they couldnt have done better.

When you consider the other 400cc class machines avail and compare prices its still one of the best in its class if not the best and since it uses such a simple well designed engine it will run almost forever with nothing more than basic maintenence.

There are also those who still would have preferred the crf450 engine in the ex frame and chassis over the current 450r so though maybe neither of these are a equal to the 250R it seems honda did something right in 98 with the 400ex not only for themselves but for the entire industry.

Its funny you mention that cause I find the newer style reverse levers or whatever to be a bigger pain in the butt, and a whole lot easier to break.

THe one that is on the warrior that so many complain about seemed to work fine to me, and never busted off or up like the one on the rappy or others z400 etc.

So maybe simpler is better.

Is the Raptor's reverse less useful than reverse on on ther ATVs?

Will the additon of reverse make the 400EX more appealing to Hare Scramble and Enduro racers than the current YFZ450 and TRX450R?

Is a reverse gear even useful in a enduro race?

I think how appealing it is to racers can depend more on the current rules and future changes than anything else. Consider if it would be made to join with the current 350cc class if they raised it to 400cc?

Reverse has its times as being real handy, but as anyone who rides without the luxury knows its not a requirement by any means.

One thing I know for sure is that though going backwards doesnt help you be any faster forwards, it can save the rider a ton of energy and that could be used towards the end of a race or even hard ride.
