Im considering buying a yfz. Has anyone had the oppertunity to compare it to the new honda 450trx??? My buddy is trying to talk me into it instead of the yam.I pulled us the spec sheets on both and they are matched very close ,electric start on the yam will be nice. He said the yfz is all top end and will be no good in tight rough trails. Will appriciate any advise, thanks.

I race my YFZ in tight, twisty, rocky and very muddy trails.
I do hare scramble racing with it and I have finished every race with it.
Good luck kickstarting a hot 4 stroke quad over after it stalls.
There are some things that need to be done to the YFZ to get it
perfect but all quads need some stuff.
You need to raise the idle up from where it comes from the dealer also.
The YFZ isn't all top end.
It grunts off the bottom too.
I can take it into a 180 degree turn, come around and whack the throttle and I don't even have to slip the clutch like you would on a high powered 2 stroke. It takes right off.
Any other info let me know.

I have not ridden a yfz but I will tell you what I have experienced with my 450R. Kick starting it is a breeze HOT or Cold. It comes with an extremely quiet pipe so it keeps the neighbors happy, less sound = more ground. It will need a 13T frt sprocket if you plan to ride tight trails etc. Stock gearing is too high. If youre a lighter guy the suspension needs the preload loosened up alot. Also bars were too low, I added a set of Tag cr double hi's and a 2 inch Rox Riser with the Rox dash. Other than that a great machine, I change the oil every 5 hours and the trans oil every 10. Use gn4 in the motor and bel ray gear saver 80w in trans. I adjusted the valves once at 30 hours, inspected them at 60hrs and will inspect again around 75 hours. Right now I estimate it has about 65 hours on it since purchasing last may.

Yep, the 06 TRX450R is very impressive. It looks like they're using the same engine from the CRF (96x62mm), so you can expect more power. They increased the compression ratio, included a Keihin FCR40 carburetor, and changed gear ratios. The rear suspension got an added 0.3" of travel, the rider position got lowered 1/4", and they added much needed length to the swingarm.

This great time to be in this sport!
