My 2003 Honda Rancher has drum brakes all around. Anyway, I am constantly having problems with the front brakes expecially when I go in mud or water. I just took it to the dealer to get the brakes fixed, $700. They worked great yesterday until I went in the mud. After that, I had NO front brakes and little back brakes.
I pulled off the drums today and it appears that the wheel cylinder that is facing up, is not functioning at all, but the one facing down works just fine. Is there any better way to prevent water and mud from getting in the upfacing cylinder?
The Honda dealer told me to stay out of the mud and water. I told him it was an All Terrain Vehicle (ALL TERRAIN) and he said water and mud was not terrain. Why have a 4x4 and not go muddin?
The real question is, other than getting a new quad or staying out of the mud , what can I do about the wheel cylinders?
(And I don't care if your Honda Foreman with 26" Mudzillas doesn't have that problem) :hysterical:

Anyone else that has a Honda with front drum brakes have problems with water and mud getting in? Has anyone used the disc brake conversion kit?? I am contemplating purchasing the disc brake kits over getting rid of the quad

Hay David I have that same problem with my rear brakes. I took the drain bolt out and no water came out. Then I took off the right rear wheel and took apart the brakes and all this water and mud came out. After I cleaned all the parts and put it all back togethere again. NOW I have no rear brakes at all . Mudstock is Saturday I wounder what 26" mudzilla's would look like on a Rancher AT.
