Its sweet. I need a set of rear tires. It has a k&n and a baldwin bearing carrier, did chain. In the future it will get a k&n airbox lid and a white bros e-series pipe and rejetted. Maybe a xr 400 cam thats the last thing ill do.
Just a thought on cams about the XR cam not really being all that.

When your ready for the cam look into the hotcam and also web and white bro's. but remember that the Web and WB require hardened rockers.

Did you decide on any tires yet?

Well the reason i like the xr cam is cause I have an Xr and its set up good. The bike has plenty of power for me and the xr cam is affordable. I havent decided on tires yet, I may wait till the swap meet in a month.

Wouldnt steer you wrong on this.

The XR cam though a larger profile than the stk ex cam is still too small unless you plan on running the stock silencer and intake, and the hotcam stage1 will give you much better results on a mildly modded 400ex and also save you around $70 over the HRC cam.

The nice thing about the stage1 compared to the HRC is that they are very similar except that the stage1 offers slightly more lift, duration and less expense.

The real gains are from doing a little extra work on the engine and moving up to the stage2 which will show even larger gains from mid to top due to additional duration and a different ramp.

PLus their all new not rewelds and do not need anything special like some other cams.

Either way you go it will be better than the "choked up" stocker.

acording to HotCams directly, their stage 2 cam is more suited for XC ... meaning, it's made to be run wide open ... it has NO bottom end at all ... the stage 1 in my 416 pulls right thru the revlimiter at 10, 500 RPM ... I also have titanium valves, springs, keepers and retainers to help the motor rev quicker ... I would stay with a stage 1 as it mades great useable power right from the hit of the throttle ... I will let you ride my bike, Justin ... then you decide for yourself ... JMO

The info we get from hot cams in their literature or on their site etc is sort of simplified version.

Talk with any true motor head about cams and you will be hearing it for a long while cause there is so much to be had or lost from various changes in size, timing and how your other parts are set up etc.

I am not a cam designer or engineer but I know from experience how these two cams differ and also have an idea on why also. These cams differ in more than just high rev and loss of bottom end power etc, and this gets more complicated when you toss a bunch of engine mods into the picture.

Actually if your (luvpits) running more than 10:1 comp and any type of porting with the other mods I think you have I would be willing to let you try my stage2 soon (I am swapping to a much larger grind in a few weeks) and almost will guarantee you will think its much better than the stage1 with those mods.

The problem or concern isnt simply just top or bottom end, or hi rev etc but is also about flow and how much and long the valves need to be open at a given RPM to allow the engine to get all the air fuel it needs.

So I guess to keep it simple in a sport that likes it stuff packaged in "stages" Hot Cams decided to make it a little simple and not get to tech in their add info. But if you want to get an ear full give them a call.

I hope that helps to clear things a little.
