Whats the stock jetting and needle setting on a 99 400ex? I just bought it and it has a K&N and im not sure if it has been jetted or not, plug is good color. I want to make sure its ok for now.

I plan on buyin the K&N power kit (i think thats what its called) it comes with filter and outerwear, filtered lid replaces stock lid, and jets and a jetting guide. I want to get all this at the same time i get a white bros e-series s-bend and suck some power out of this beast.

Stock jetting is 148 main, 38 pilot, and 3rd clip on the needle.

Are you already set on buying the white brothers? I have one and my friend has an HMF, and his sounds better and has more power. Plus its only 209 and if you pay an extra 20 bucks you can get it powdercoated any color...

Im not totally set, i may not want to play with the discs. Do you know the decibal of the hmf? Is there any sites with a good pipe shootout with dyno charts and all that? Im gonna see what jet is in there tomorrow. How do you like them mud sharks? What conditions do you ride in? Ever try em on the track?

I am not sure on the power difference between those two silencers but I do know that the E series is adjustable in changing the amount of discs and is quieter than the extremely annoying load HMF.

I would only recomend the HMF to those with plenty of area that have no concerns with pissin off the people who may live close by as we dont need any other areas closed down or patrolled more cause some rider only wanted to gain 1/8 hp at top rpm.

Plus a louder pipe will normally have less packing and back pressure and therefor less bottom end too.

IDK the Decibals of the HMF but I do know with the quiet core(extra 35 bucks) it is quieter then my pipe. And my friend measured mine at 98 decibals, but that might not be totally accurate.

The mudsharks are awesome in mud and snow, but anywhere else....they SUCK!! On hardpack they spin like crazy.. My friend has holeshot xcr's and they hook up great, also razors are supposed to be nice, or razors 2 if you got the extra money....

you know Lenny, I'm starting to think you actually know what you are talking about ... LOL ... JK ... the point you make about the lack of bottom end is quite valid ... when I still had a stock bore, I had a White Bros slip on, it SUCKED ... this slip on made so little difference I didn't even have to touch the carb ... I used it for two rides, them took it off and GAVE it to my friend ... my suggestion is to save a little more and buy a complete Pro Circuit system ... I have one and LOVE IT ... it too is tuneable, AND makes power from the hit of the throttle ... JMO

You would be good with the razr's but I think you would do better to leave the bear out of the bearclaws, and just consider the klaws.

the bear claws are just to tall and too open lug style for the EX.

I know both the razr and klaw fronts work excelent onthe EX!!

Hey thanks Jack

It may have taken me till after many have given up on this model to do it but I think I may have finally figured it out

It can be upsetting how so much of this sport is macho BS and hype, and like a friend once said after putting a shiny new POS R4 silencer on his mostly stock 400ex "wow mine sounds a lot faster than yours now" is how brain washed we can become.

Wont bore with the details but that was a damn funny ride that day with the faster sounding pipe
