Hello all.
The subject of PHOTOPOST has come up again in recent conversations. Namely with respect to uploading pictures that are too big. Digital cameras are taking bigger and bigger photos these days, and sometimes, thanks to Windows, that's transparent to the person using it, until they go to upload!
Do not be intimidated with the length of these directions, it's a five second thing explained in detail.
I've located the link DIRECTLY from Microsoft, for the IMAGE RESIZER TOOL. This tool couldn't be any easier to use, its not a program per se', but a simple utility which will install itself "into" Windows XP.
By clicking the next link, it will DIRECTLY link you to the download, in other words, SAVE IT and then RUN IT.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whi...wertoySetup.exe
Installation is easy, no big fanfare, just accept everything that's already checked or just click NEXT, Choose COMPLETE not CUSTOM, it saves you nothing.. You won't have to reboot when done. Don't look for an icon or anything, it won't exist or be needed.
Warnings:
1) Make sure you copy your photos off the camera and put them on your PC before performing this operation. Do not delete them off the camera either, always good to have multiple copies.
2) WINDOWS XP ONLY!
3) Make sure you only highlight photos, all cameras take movies too these days, so you could get some weird error, just pay attention when highlighting.
How to use it:
Easy. First some basics. If it's only one photo, simply RIGHT CLICK on the photo, and find the choice for RESIZE PICTURES, click it, you'll then be presented with four choices..

**** USE SMALL / 640 x 480 FOR THE PHOTOPOST ****
There will be almost no loss in quality either. After you make the choice a NEW photo will appear with the EXACT same name it had before with one exception, it will now have the words (small) in the name.
Example, if your photo was originally called MyFirstBigJump.jpg, it will now be called MyFirstBigJump(small).jpg. Done.
Now, if you have multiple files to shrink, say a whole days worth of pictures or some family outing, you'll need to highlight all your photos at once, the easy way is to LEFT CLICK from one corner to the opposite corner, (explained: think of a tic tac toe board, by clicking OUTSIDE of the bottom right corner and dragging up to the OUTSIDE of the upper left corner- the photos will highlight while dragging) so all photos are highlighted at once, then RIGHT CLICK and choose RESIZE PICTURES, same as listed above for the single photo. Again it will rename all your pictures with the name it is plus (small) or whatever size you choose. Again, 640 x 480 is ideal for PHOTOPOST.
OK, this concludes your lesson. Go post some photos already will ya!!
