I blew my ignition cylinder yesterday ( yeah.. doing something stupid). And I could not get the bike started, so I tried to hot wire it with no luck, I got the wires exposed and the machine is cranking , but won't turn over
Is this some type of " anti theft " thing ?? or am I doing something wrong here ??

any help is appreciated..

I just looked at the KFX700's wiring diagram and the answer is the same as with many Yamaha ATVs. You must connect all three key cylinder wires together. The White wire has power from the battery. When you turn the key it connects the brown wire and gray wire to it.

If the power was on and it cranks, then you got the wires connected ok. Disconnect them at the end of the day to not run down the battery.

UPDATE .. I got her running just a lil while ago.. It turns out that My first impression was correct.. It is a anti-theft set up. Without the key in the on position.. the voltage drops to a level low enought to crank but not fire .
The solution was to re-connect the ignition and pull the cylinder and start it w/ a screwdriver. It's a temporary fix till the part comes in and I can set it up properly, But for now I am forced to ride ghetto style :yoyoyo: and keep a screwdriver on hand as a key.. But I can ride non the less.. :rider:

Thanks for all the info.. I hope this can help someone else in the future..

i didnt nescisarily hotwire my quad, but i did lose the key, KFX 400, so i took the tumbler apart and used a pair of pliers to turn the contacts to the on position. only thing was you couldnt leave the bike in nuetral when you parked it. doing so would light up the nifty little nuetral light and kill your battery. only downside was that i couldnt use the headlights to ride at night. but it was just a temp fix till i got the new tumbler and keys.
