Just wondering if anyone knows what to check when the engine cuts out when giving it throttle. It seems that it's either starving for gas, or air. The battery is charged OK. I'm running premium unleaded gas. I changed the gas filter. Still cuts out. I would appreciate some help if someone has had this same problem. Thanks.

Hi All, We are having the same problem with 04 Sportsman 400. We drained the gas, changed the fuel filter and ran fine for a week or 2. Then same old prob. The last time we took gas tank off and checked the screens, they were clean as a whistle, sprayed carb cleaner in the carb. This seemed to help, ran fine on all day trail ride but next morning back to same problem. I know nothing about the pulse fuel pump on these, do they cause much problems? Your help is appreciated, Thanks

Does applying the choke change the symptoms? A engine running on a clogged carburetor will start to run better when you apply the choke. It won't necessarily make it run right, but an improvement can typically be observed.

If you're concerned about the fuel pump, I would pull the fuel return line that goes back to the fuel tank while the engine is running to see that fuel is flowing through it. Those pumps are very simple and I've taken them apart dozens of times. fuel pump diagram If you submerged your ATV, it's possible water has gotten into the bladder which would definitely limit it's ability to pump fuel.

Found the problem tonight, Had some fuel sediment clogging the jet. A little carb cleaner shook it right out. Doesnt take much to make them foul up. The way I get it there are seperate jets for idle and rev. Explains why it idled and started fine but cutout when revved. Thanks for your help.
