Help,

I have a 2001 polaris sportsman 500 ho, back in april I put a new wiseco piston in, head reconditioned and put back together, I had low compression before I did this work.
Now after all this work it has low power, it idles fine and sounds good no back fire or anything. The compression is 70 which the manual states it should be between 50-90psi. I have tried everything I can think of. I put a new jet kit in, nothing!!! I do use this for plowing, could the clutch or belt be damaged???

I need help,
Kevin <_<

Does it feel like the trans is slipping or anything? What did the power feel like when you first got the quad?

if the installation of the upper end rebuild brought back the compression then you obviously had two problems at the same time. in neutral does the engine rev up fast as it should, if so i would look at the cvt sys. does the engine rev up ok in gear, but not much action, belt slipping. or does the engine bog in gear, cvt rollers hanging up. otherwise check ignition sys., resistance on the coil wire, also check proper fuel level in the bowl, needle and seat hanging up
just my 3 cents, hope this helps

Thanks for your input,

It seems to get up to 10mph okay and then it just flattens out boggs. It takes about 2 miles to get up to 50mph. I used to be able to do 60mph no problem in half mile. The compression came up after the work to the top end. I do plowing with the quad and I wonder if the belt is worn. But then again it does not rev up so I don't know. It is almost like it is stuck in high gear when i get to about 10-20mph and it just labors to go any faster, just bogg whooooo. THis sucks.

Thanks for any input

Don't know if this will help but, Check the seal on the cover of you Polirs Veriable Transmission. If water is getting in the PVT your belt will slip and you will get little to no power to the transmission. The seal is about $5. I don't think that is your problem but check it.

HEY KEVIN ... SJRIDER GAVE YOU SOME VERY GOOD INFORMATION ... NOW, LET'S TAKE IT ONE STEP FURTHER ... DID YOU OR SOMEONE ELSE DO THE REASSEMBLY ... POINT BEING, YOU CAN BE ONE TOOTH OFF ON THE TIMING ... THE BIKE WILL IDLE FINE WITH NO LOAD ON IT ... AS SOON AS THE LOAD IS PLACED ON THE MOTOR, IT WILL HAVE LITTLE TO NO POWER ... I HAVE SEEN IT HAPPEN NUMEROUS TIMES ... ALSO, WERE THE RING ENDS STAGGERED WHEN THE PISTON WAS INSTALLED ... IF THEY WERE NOT STAGGERED 180 DEGREES FROM EACH OTHER, THIS TOO CAN CAUSE POOR PERFORMANCE DUE TO LEAKING CYLINDER PRESSURE (COMPRESSION) ... HOPE THIS HELPS ... LET US KNOW HOW YOU MAKE OUT

Thanks for all your comments,

I went back to the polaris dealer and it turns out that the camshaft and rocker arm was bad. The weird part is that only one lobe out of three was worn out (I think it was a defect). Anyway I am back and running strong, polaris rocks and crushes little girly rocks *beep*!!! :rider:

Thanks again for your help!
