Hello to all, I'm a new member with a relatively funny (to me) shame story for you.
Background: I do quite a bit of Surf Fishing at the NJ shore - Which involves driving my 4x4 on the beach, and following schools of feeding fish around (if you are lucky). Well, sometimes you need to change lures quickly, and I ended up hanging a saltwater (BIG) swimming lure from my rear-view mirror...
Story: I'm driving on the NE Extension of the PA Turnpike, at approximately 11:30 p.m. - 12 a.m. on a Friday night, headed up to our ATV / Ski house near Elk mountain.
About 5 miles before Rt 81, someone comes up behind me with their high-beams on.
I feel high-beaming someone at highway speeds is RUDE - so I quickly flick the dimmer on my rear-view mirror....AND
OUCH!!!
[attachment=2587:attachment]
I ended up hooking myself on that rusty Yozuri crank bait hanging from my rear-view mirror - Doing 75MPH, at night, in a rain storm....with my hand stuck to the rear-view mirror. To make things worse, there is construction there, and I didn't feel comfortable pulling over to remove the hand from the mirror. I had to drive ~5 miles to pull over in a safe spot (after the tolls).
Thank goodness I couldn't find any pliers in the car - I was forced to stop at Geisinger hospital to get it removed. It was a very slow night at the hospital, and the medical staff was entertained by my predicament. I kept good humor, and after 5 shots of Lidocane, and quite a bit of tugging, they were able to clip the barb, and remove the hook.
I think there are only two worse places for me to have put that lure: The ignition, or the steering wheel itself.
I hope you get a good laugh outta this one.
Best regards, Carl G.

Ouch. Talk about bad luck, did you at least catch anything before it happened?
On another note, tell us more about your ATV house

That must have been the longest 5 miles you ever drove....even longer than when you've REALLY gotta go!
Now, like Sully said....Elk Mountain area?

Uncle Mike's
Wintertime = Skihouse (and gets the most use).
Non-Wintertime = General getaway for us city folk, and ATV house (to some of the owner's chagrin...). In fact, there is an annual event that was named after one of the owner's emailed rant against our riding ATVs up there, it's called "A$$hole Quad Weekend". We have since learned that this specific person likes to "Cry Wolf" to get his point across, and he is steadlily loosing credibility.
Currently, Three out of seven owners own quads (I purchased my first quad last week, a new Honda Rancher 400 AT), and our immediate "quad family" is up to 6 quads. Hopefully soon to be more, cause the Boss (my GF) loves to ride.
These days, we turn on the "cloaking device" when we ride up there...especially since the neighbors are putting up fresh posted signs. We do have permission to ride on one of the neighbor's land, but the borders are a bit fuzzy.
Gas lines criss-cross the area, and we have been to the top of the ski area before, makes for quite a nice vew.
Best, Carl G.
