I just bought an 87' suzuki lt230e. My questions are how much oil do they take, thats with fitler change also. My second question is that the chain has a lot of slack in it and keeps popping off, Is there a way that it can be adjusted or do I need a new one ? If so how do you adjust it? Thanks in advance for your time and any help that you can provide. Ryan

they take 2000ml as stated right next to the oil plug.

as for the timing, the only way i was able to is to unscrew the screws on the cam sprocket and then pull the sprocket from the cam, then turn the chain, i guess, im currently trying to get the timing right on my LT, i got until this thursday

Isn't there a site glass on the side case to see the oil level? I would buy 3 Qts and dump 1 Qt in and then add the 2nd Qt a little at a time until the oil is up to the full mark. Keep the extra oil for topping off later

To adjust the chain losen the long bolt that runs threw the rear of the swing arm. On the ends of this bolt you will see adjusters, 1 on the left, 1 on the right side of the swingarm. They have 1 small bolt each on the rear part of then with lock nuts. Losen the lock nuts, then evenly turn the small bolts on the adjuster clockwise and that will move the rear axle back and tighten the chain. Look to be sure that the axle is srtaight in the swing arm. Sometimes you my need to turn 1 adjuster more than the other to make it straight .

Tighten the lock nuts and swing arm bolt.

230 s throw the chain alot when the swing arm and/or axle bearings are loose.

Yup, my friend's LT230S kept on dropping the chain because the swing arm and axle needed new bearings.
