anybody ever seen a z400 with a kickstart backup? I think it would be a good idea, in case a battery ever fails you when you're out in the middle of nowhere.

Save the unecessary weight and just replace your battery if it becomes questionable. You can replace quite a few batteries for the price of a kick starter.

Wouldn't it be lighter to remove the battery and starter, and just use the kick start?

Yes, but then it wouldn't be his "backup" to electric start.

I could see "replacing" the elctric starter with a kick, but simply adding a kick starter is a little obsessive.

Replacing the e-start with a kick start on the YFZ450 gives you a net savings of 11 pounds.

If you've ever stalled your ATV in a race, it can easily cost you 4 positions while you stop, flip out the lever, tyen kick one or more times. With electric start, I've actually stalled my ATV before and hit the cluch and start button without anyone knowing it happened. Saving the 11 pounds granted is significant, but I personally wouldn't recommend it to anyone that races. If you're a sand-duner or ATV drage racer, that's a totally different set of circumstances.
