I have a polaris 500 sportsman about 6 years old. It starts easily with jumpercables but will not start without. I replaced the battery as it was dead and cleaned all the connections to battery and relay. Still no start without jumper cables???? Can any body tell me what to look at next?

First thing I would start at is make sure it is the right battery for the bike... Second thing would be make sure the new battery is good.. Worked in a dealership and seen new batteries be dead from sitting to long... You can get a battery tester that looks like a fancy eye dropper you can find them in basicaly every automotive store...

make shure the battery has a charge...Ive seen alot that were new that were low and needed to be charged overnight before use...Put a volt meter to it to get and indication of what it says...when hitting your e start...If low the voltage will drop wayy down

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering about that. I got it at the polaris dealer and it looks and has the same terminals as old one. I will get a tester and let you know.

you have to atleast start with determining if the battery is 100% take it to the parts store and let them load test it for you.

if the batt is good the extra boost from the jumper cables may be overcoming bad cables or bad starter. from that point you need to do some voltage drops on the cables and then do an amp draw on the starter if they check out.
