--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am rebuilding a 1996 honda foreman 400 and am putting top end together and installing new pistons and rings. I have oil ring installed and cannot determine difference between top and middle ring, they both have a "T" marking on them. One ring is rectangular in shape (cross section) and the other looks to have a rounded edge on it. Need to know which is top ring?? any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated..................

thanx

I thinking the rectangle shape ring would be your top ring but I am not sure.

Is this a stock piston or aftermarket? I know Wiseco uses a rectangle shape ring in the top grove and the ring for the second grove has a bevel cut on the inside of it.

Maybe this will help. http://www.mpsracing.com/Instructions/Wise...003_CB_rods.pdf

If one of the rings has a bevel on it, or is "L" shaped, that's proibably your top ring. The bevel goes towards the top. I just check a Rubicon, and it has a beveled top ring.
