I have a 98 recon 250 and it has always ran good. It all of a sudden started popping and spitting and wouldn't hold idle. I took it off and cleaned it out checked the rubber spacer for leaks but it still does the same thing. I don't know where to look now.

Are you saying you cleaned the carburetor? If so, did you find contamination? Maybe you need to clean the fuel tank.

You could also suspect the spark plug lead and cap. Make sure it's clean under there and theres no cracks in the lead wire. If you run the ATV in a place where it's completely dark, you could look to see if there's any arcing from the spark plug and coil. You can spray all of it down with WD40 to control some of the arcing.

there pretty stout engines in them..If the valves havent been adjusted in a while, if at all you may want to look into that,if all else fails..
