I finally got my recon to run better but gas still seeps out around the needle valve and seat. I have been buffing in clean and smooth with q-tips and valve grinding compound but after it sits with gravity fed gas to the bowl it starts to leak out of the vent tube at the bottom of the bowl. Can that valve seat be replaced by itself? thanks, kyle@heron ridge

Needle and seats come as a set. That sounds like what you need if it's leaking even when you close the valve. If needle typically has a viton tip, I'm not surprised it's still leaking after you lapped it. I don't think viton will hold up against lapping compound.

I haven't worked on a honda quad carb, but I deal with Honda powered small equipment evey day. The biggest problem I deal with is gas leaking through the carb into the cylinder. Honda tells me that it is caused by the float bouncing around when the equipment is being transported. Once the needle/seat is messed up, the only thing you can do is keep the gas turned off when not in use, or replace/repair the carb. As a preventive messure, turn your fuel off during transport and run it out a little to reduce the bounceing on the float.
