The atv will have more top speed but not be able to climb hills as easy.
More top end and less bottom end.

The info on top/bottom end and speed is right, but some machines are known to be geared a little high or low stock so it may help to let us know what quad he has and what mods if any including tires.

And you only need to change the other sprocket if its worn, or you would want to make another adjustment to the ratio. There can be a need to shorten or lenghten the chain also.

Dummer, in order to help and make an intelligent decision, you need to supply more info on your friend, and his bike ... what kind of bike does he have, how heavy is he, what size tires are on the bike and what is he looking to do with the bike, it doesn't do now ... ALL these factory will determine what gearing he needs ... you can also call Pat at Cycle Addicts, all sprocket manufacturers have gearing charts available to help you decide the best choice for your needs ... as a vendor, I bet CA has one
