I have a pair of identical atv's, and a few months ago I buried my ATV in a mud hole. I was pulled out, checked the oil for contamination, there was none, and i continued to ride all day long. I cleaned the entire machine and have ridden it recently, only to find the transmission slipping terribly and my wife's machine will run 54 MPH while right now mine will only hit 38 MPH tops. I took the trans cover off and washed out all the mud and reinstalled the cover. The belt looks fine and is tight. Where do I gof rom here? What could be causing the slippage and the lack of power and top speed. The engine is performing just as it did when new, as it starts instantly and is not missing or running rough. Please help if you can.

More than likely you got something caught in the helix. You are gonna have to take apart the secondary and the primary clutches to clean them out also. If you are not mechanically inclined, this would be best left to a mechanic. The primary clutch is pretty easy, but the secondary is tough. I could go into more detail, and will if ya email me. If it seems like a task better undertaken by a mechanic, then ship it.....
