Sounds like the float is sticking to me. Also check your needle and seat fro wear. If your bike sat over the winter with old gas in it, it may have gummed up the float bowl. I recommend taking the carb apart and cleaning it.

Paul is right. The float in your carb is to stop fuel from entering the float bowl when it is full. The float pushes up on a float needle to shut off the fuel. Either something is stuck on the needle or it is gummed up that it does not have a good seal.

I would go with leaking needle or bad float also, but on the rare instance, this is wacky, but some times the breather tube that connects to the lower port cracks and leaks fuel. But by what you are saying that it only leaks some times, id have to go with bad needle and seat or float problems.

What I'd do: Get a new float needle and seat. Remove the carb, disassemble completely, cleaning every orifice. Replace the needle and seat. Set your float height (rule of thumb, hold the carb level and you'll want the floats level when the needle is fully seated/closed). Check your tank for debris and add an inline fuel filter. Reassemble.... and your problems should be cured. Besides, if you've never been inside your carb before, you'd be surprised the junk that could be in there.
