Not sure how well this will work but I was thinking why not have a thread directly about performance mods to ask questions and share ideas and experiences etc.
I figure that since there are a couple members who have some experience modding their machines maybe we could help each other out and maybe even save others looking to mod their machines a lot of $$$ and headaches.
So lets give it a try and post your performance questions etc here.

ok heres a performance question for you guys.
i needa get the 1986 suzuki lt230s (after i get it running) i gotta get it to beat a polaris sportsman 500 (my neighbors gettin cocky). i dont think it will be a problem.. but hes gotten his 4wheeler to keep up wit banshies b4. and i wanna knwo what the chances of this are, and if i dont have a chance in heck, what would i need to do to the 4 wheeler to kepp up/ pass the sportsman?

-Just because of them, We get a bad rep.

-Just because they didnt think it would mean anything, they did it.
-Just because something means very little (or nothing) to you, doesnt mean it doesnt impact people in other places.

OK, I've seen a million of these type of questions. My response is to try to compare apples to oranges as the saying goes. The 2 quads mentioned are 2 different type of quads and should not be grouped together for a race. I am a racer. That is what I do. The only difference is I go up against machines that are like mine. What you need to do is take your 230 and race it against other machines in your class.
If you are really serious about beating your neighbor with the machine you have you will need to put a different engine in your quad to start with
which would involve lengthening the frame for more stability and such. Then you can't say you beat the guy with a 230 because it won't be.
So......

Well the sportsman is a 4 stroke and the LT a 2 stroke. That makes them equal. It takes twice the cc's for a 4 stroke to compete with a 2 stroke.
The next question is what kind of race.
Straight away, tight woods or track?
Now being that the two bikes are a decade apart, it will be a bit tougher with the technological advances.
Once your motor is tuned and modified a bit, it will all come down to gearing.
Take in account the Suzuki is not the best of technology, even for the time it was out. (it doesn't have that famous vibration does it?)
