They were good for frying pistons. Are you sure the compression is good?? There might be gas in the carb, but is it getting in the cylinder? Try holding the throttle wide open and cranking it. It's probably loaded up. When it fires, leave it wide open until it smooths out.
That was the way I had to start my son's KTM (same engine) when it got flooded or laid down. How hot is the spark? You can have spark, but not good spark. Try a new plug anyway. They're cheap enough, and if that isn't the trick, then you can still use the old one as a spare.
