If all else fails, fill it with starter fluid and light a match(you old time mechanics will remember that trick)

Not recommended I have seen it done a couple of times with large truck tires that have been hard to seat. There is a knack to it . Im sure you didn't mean it but "FILL IT with stater fluid" is a poor choice of words and would be fatal My guess is you meant a quick spray a third the way round the inside of the tire. I personally feel this would be real dangerous with any low pressure tire and shouldn't be tried at home. [/b]

Ahh yes! We used starter fluid. A quick shot in the tire and throw a match. BOOM!!! You have to stand far away or you'll get a flash burn!
One time at band camp.........
I was coming back from lunch and one of the Techs (I use that term loosely with this guy) I worked with Was trying to seat a set of big truck tires using the starter fluid method. As I was wlking up to the shop I hear BOOM! I knew what it was no big deal. Then I hear OH (insert 4 letter word here)! I knew right a way the idiot was standing too close.
As I walked in to the bay of the shop I see this guy walking toward the bathroom with half of his head smoldering.

Leaving a trail of smoke.

Needless to say I almost peed my self laughing. I'm actually laughing right now.
He went home and got a hair cut and a shave but there was nothing to do for his missing eyebrow.
