Question

just found out my bike has a bad cdi box so i was just going to replace it but then the guy tell me i need to change the stator and all what does everbody think.[don't really have the money to change it all

Why would you have to change the stator if the CDI is what's bad? What kind of quad do you have?

If the guy told you that it sounds more like he's not sure and just playing safe and telling you to do both. It's one or the other. I'm not saying it's not possible that both would go at the same time, just doesn't seem likely. I think your mechanic is trying to cover his ars.

i took the bike up there and he started changing all these parts till he got to the cdi.replaced it and it fired up but what he ways says maybe the stator could have messed up the box

Run it with the new CDI box and see what happens, or if you want to do it the right way buy a manual and test it how it suggests and then you will know whats truely the problem part.

Seems weird since I had an 89 that was still working with both the stator and cdi that came stock.

Sounds like a trial and error mechanic.

I disagree. I think parts swapping is the best way to dignose problems with few exceptions.

a new cdi box is high so i'm thinking of geting a programble one anybody know any good ones.
