I am looking to get some new tires for my Rancher. The sizes now are 24x8-12 in the front and 24x9-11 in the back. What do the numbers represent and should I stay with that size so that I do not loose any power/speed? I have NO intensions on lifting or adding a jet kit. I would like to keep it stock.

Oh yeah, and Jeff, I don't really care what you Rancher has in it. Mine is better and Rich proved it :hysterical:* :hysterical:*

24= height
8/9= width
11/12= rim size
You could go bigger just make sure that you keep the front and rear the same, or close to it so you won't mess up your 4X4. Also, if you go wider make sure they will fit before you spend the $$$$$.
note: the smaller the tire- less top end the bigger the tire, more top end......it will just take you longer to get there.

Hey wait a min. On my bike the 8/9 is the rim size and the 11/12 is the tire width
22/11/9 rear 22 height ,11 tire width,9 rim size is there a difference from machine to machine?

The tire width figure is almost trivial. You can mount any width tire to any width rim with only a few exceptions. The exception being a "front" tire which is very narrow being mounted to a rear rim.

You knew i had to eventually respond didnt you all......
First off, the important factor of a full time 4wd is to keep the height ratio the same or as close as possible. The height ratio in this case is 24/24=1, real easy. So basically with that formula, as long as you have the same height tires, there is np issue with your 4wd(you could put a 97 inch front tire on it as long as a 97 inch rear tire was on it).
Now for width, as was said before, most width tires will fit on any rim, usually there is the 4/2 rule. 4 inches wider or 2 inches narrower than the rim is acceptable. Si if the rim is 8 inches wide, 12" to 6" wide tire would fit.
My opinions and stuff i have experience with....
Most 4x4's have thinner tires because it cuts thru the mud and snow better. The wider the tire, the larger the surface area(contact patch) and the more weight dispersment on a given area(which generally results in a loss of traction in loose conditions). Mud draggers do not adhere to this for one reason, THEY DO NOT SINK, they actually float on top of them mud. If you look at any mud boggers, the ones with the narrower tires usually fair better.
If you were looking for replacements, i would generally say, stick with the same width tire, and go up and inch(a little more ground clearence). I really dont think Melissa would notice the difference in power, but then again, you plow with this quad right? If you lacked on power last year plowing, then i would just stick with what you got.....
Im sure i have confused you more.... sorry.
