This question is in several parts. SO let me dive right in.

I installed driving lights on neighbors Raptor 80. I did the math wrong when it came to drawing amperage, so the 55W lamps draw 9 amps, just a tad too much! SO.. how do I reduce this overdraw... 35W Bulbs? Also, since they are bright only for the first 5 minutes they are used.... reducing wattage would theoretically reduce lighting right ? Not sure.... I've got a few man hours in this already, they LOOK smokin! But.... well... if they dont work.

Lastly, Anybody sellin RAPTOR headlights? Seriously, did anybody remove weight by pullin the lighting kit off?? Willin to part with them???

Mark they have a formula for figuring out watts/amps/volts,but I dont remember it right now-sorry dude.
Anyhow, yeah get bulbs that arent as powerfull.I wouldnt want to be drawing more than 15 amps total.Plus ,how much output can the machine handle?
And what size fuze did you use ? was it less than a 20amp. ?
And how did you tie them in,the rap-80 has no factory lights right?

That should keep you busy a while - :hysterical:

1 - I know the formula. 55(watts) divided by 12 x 2 (each light). Hence the 9.x amp draw.

2 - Dont know what the machine can handle, but I knwo what it CANT handle...see above

3 - Fuse from "kit" was 15 amp, blew it, used a 20.

4 - Kit form, fog lights for car.... Small type.

EDIT- Super bright fake HID's, They looked REAL bright for the first 10 minutes then little by little they yellowed down to nothing. Powered 'em off and he doubled up with me. (We cruised in the snow yesterday, we go slow, in 4wd etc...)

Are you running the lights off the battery or the ATV itself?

If you are running off the ATV you need a regulator to "calm" that current to what the lights can use. Otherwise while you rev the lights will get brighter and dimmer or blow out from overload.

AH. OK, Yes, the harness is pulling power directly from battery....

Universal regulator..... sweet. Being its "universal", I take it its not a BIKE ONLY part? Can I pick one up at an auto parts store? or dare I say a Pep Boys or similar???

Thanks Steve!

The lights on the YFZ450 run off the AC magneto without being regulated. Maybe this is what your need to do on yours? I'm told the YFZ350 also runs it's lights off of AC power.

Hmm I'll check into that as well, thanks.

By the way, what the hell is that in your signature about that BAM show?
