To tell you guys the honest truth, i usually just spray some silicone lube down the hole at the cables end(red plastic tube makes it easier). Usually do it every couple of rides and operate the cable while im doing it. Never had a cable sieze or break yet(KNOCKING ON WOOD)

Freak, like just regular Silicone Spray? And how much do you spray? Can you spray too much?

You should not use silicone, or wet based lubes...These will attract dirt particles and suck them into the cable..

Go out and buy the cable luber kit, it comes with a Dri-lube type lubricant..

Don't use WD-40 or Silicone based lubes as they typically don't interact well with the lubricant that comes in the cable..

You can pick up the Dri-Lube on it's own at Loews for $2 a can, or you can go to a cycle dealer and buy it for $8 a can...

Same thing goes for lubing your perches too.
