I just recently(today) purchased a 1986 250r. Tell me what you think, and I also have some questions"
I starts and runs great, new piston and rings about 80? hours ago, +4 a-arms, +4 axle, new chain, clutch, good brakes, ac front bumper, grab bar, and nerf bars with pegs. New bottom end bearings with piston, new side case that was previously cracked from chain. Paul turner pipe and silencer. K&n filter with prefilter and drilled lid. Holeshots front rear with douglas rims. Front works shocks with rezzies, and rear TCS with rezzy. Picked it up for $2600.
MY questions are that when ridind (ripped it through 3rd) 2nd gear seems really short, and almost seems like it falls on its face but then after shift into third takes off, also the clutch may need adjustment because when its fully pushed in it seem to still be engaged a little. Help with these please.
Let me know what you all think. thanks

not a bad price.it sounds like it has low gearing.what size sprockets does it have with the tire hight?with the pip and air box mods you should check the jetting to make sure the previous owner had it perfected.do a plug chop and youll know if its on or not.good luck

a plug chop is simple.youl have to put a new plug in it and run it for about 15-20 minute to get the bike nice and warm but not long enough to stain the new plug with any carbon.bring a wrench to pull the plug out and rip into the bike until you get in the highest gear at full throttle that space will allow and hold it there for 3-7 seconds.WITHOUT letting off the throttle kill the bike and pull in clutch and coast to a stop.pull the plug.this will let you see how the bike is jetted with the most load you can put on it at wot.black and wet is way to rich, but a nice chocolate color and dry is perfect.way light tan to white is lean and is no good.here a link for ya to read on,its for banshees thats what i ride but a 2 stoke engine is the same in principle.
