I just had my son's '00 Trailblazer 250 piston and rings done. Cylinder was bored and sleeved to stock. I brought it in because the machine would not start. they said there was water in the crankcase and it needed to be done. I did not have a problem with that as I figured a new top end would not be a bad thing to have.

Ok...got it home, and he ran it around the yard for about 15 minutes then it just died. AND WILL NOT START!!

I am new to 2 strokes, but a pretty good wrench. The starter cranks, but nothing. If I let it sit for a bit, and use the pull start, it seems to want to start on the first couple of pulls, then again NOTHING!!

I blew out the fuel filter and that did not help (did not get a new one yet, it is Sunday and the stores are closed).

I NEED HELP PLEASE!! Anyone know what is wrong with it? Why would it run for a bit then just quit and not start? This is what happened before the piston and rings were done.

The previous owner mentioned something about draining the crankcase and it would then start. I could not find a crankcase plug. Would this do it? Aren't 2 strokes supposed to have fuel/oil mix in the crankcase?

Do you smell alot of gas? It may be flooded. Pull the spark plug out and look at it, make sure it is not drenched in fuel. If it is get a plug. Make sure the needle in the carb is not stuck.

Without more in formation, you're asking us to speculate what might have happened. You should pull the spark plug and look for sitgns of trouble. Removing the head and visually in specting the bore, wouldn't hurt either.

Water in the crankcase, more often than not, causes the lower end bearings to rust. Were you given any assurances your water damage was limited to the top end? If there was enough water in the crankcase, there could be seal damage from the compression.

Like you suspected, 2-strokes pump the fuel-air mix through the crankcase.
