today i go out to ride the quad, i turn the key and the battery is dead. I just had it out a couple days before in the snow so i know it was not from sitting. So by now im so pissed that i cant get it started with the pull start, i jump it.

When it started the fan came on and it was flashing HOT on the display. it will stay on even when the key is off. Can anyone help me i dont want to take it back to the dealer..

Im not really sure how that system is set up and dont have a schematic in front of me but I would gather that there is a temp sensor thats reading hot when its really not and causing your light to flash and fan to run.Maybe try and find the sensor and unplug it to see if the fan stops.not knowing if the sensor completes the ground path or gives a resistance value to a control module makes it difficult to diagnose.get yourself a good service manual if some simple checks dont get you anywhere.

Hey, I have the service manual for the 2004 Scrambler and I think it covers the Sportsman as well. I will look at it tonight and let you know if it has anything in there under troubleshooting...

Here is what the manual says. It refers to the THERMISTOR.......

Should the thermistor fail open the engine HOT light and fan will both come on (this is your problem). With engine cold, disconnect lead and measure resistance of sensor between the Yellow/Black terminals. There should be NO continuity from the themistor lead to the engine ground.

Sounds to me like the transponder reactor backup fibulator is bad :hysterical: :hysterical:
