Bombardier Traxter Rotax Engine

My starter made a grinding sound but the gear on the end of the starter itself is ok. The rotax engine has a ring gear. Shortly after it started grinding the engine locked up while idling. It made a couple of clanking sounds and locked up. The only thing I can think of, is the ring gear has broke and wedged into something to lock-up the engine. Has anyone out there seen this problem? I will tear it down when I get the time , but any heads up on possible problems would be nice. Thanks

This was actually a starter recall problem with the unit staying engauged ,i went throught this on mine,the dealer will install a new starter and solenoid under the recall ,if you need the recall #i can dig it back up
