I was looking on ebay earlier and I saw an brand new aluminum airbox with lid for a 400ex. I was wondering if it is worth it or not. Th one on ebay is only 80 bucks but it is no name brand or anything...What are some good brands if I did decide to do this?

I heard somewhere that after a while the frame starts to tweak on the 400ex, because of the 10lb battery on one side?

I was searching on exriders and they said the best aluminum airbox is CFM. But they are about 120 without a lid (without lid) and about 200 with a lid (with lid)

I figured I could get the one without a lid, make a lid out a a scrap piece of aluminum and attach it with some wing nuts or sumthing that will give easy access to the airfilter and battery. I would probably drill some one inch holes in it, this way I'd still have protection and good airflow.

I seen the ones on ebay looked pretty decent but I really don't feel safe going with a no name brand...

I allways see this topic and have to ask WHY?

I just dont see the benefit of moving the stupid battery and cluttering up the air box with it.

The plastic one that came stock seems to work fine and unless you bust them regularly why not buy them from service honda @ 15.00ea.

The weight of the battery on one side does not make enough of a difference to warrant moving it, and if you were anal to move it why would you restrict the airflow into the engine by shoving the battery into a too small airbox?

I was working on a air box that had a seperate section for the battery that kept it out of the way of everything but never finished it since it doesnt seem to actually accomplish anything and now that the newer 450's are out most have lost interest in the EX.

There are so many things I could put the $200 that most want for the aluminum air box into that would give a real performance gain that I cant see any reason to get one.

put that $200 into a cam or towards a set of shocks where you will get some benefit.

ive been to a couplke other forums and was told there not worth it. my friend has a 400ex and he just moved the batt inside of his some how he just drilled holes and siliconed them after wards. just my opinion if you could move it inside that would be what like $10 for silicone and be done.
