re: Honda 2005 90 Sportrax

Son went into huge puddle and ATV sank.

Water was all in the oil, I have changed / drained the oil until all water was out and oil came out looking clear.

ATV will crank with no hesitation, will change gears, but once we push the gas the engine dies.

Any suggestions??

Danny

Sounds stupid, but did you check the air filter?

Yes, I checked the air filter. Of course it was pretty nasty so I changed it.

Thank everyone for the input. We figured out that their was still some water/mud/sludge in the exhaust, so we flipped the ATV over and mashed the gas and all of it came blowing out.

We went riding today and now it is working fine.

Again, thank you for all your input.

I've sunk a few Sea-Doo's and have been around plenty others that sank.

It sounds like you took a bunch of good steps in brining your ATV back to life.

I've always insisted, that you must get the engine restarted within an hour or so once the engine has injested water. Piston rings and steel cylinder liners can rust in a half hour of being exposed to water. Main bearings a big end rod bearing can rust a little while after that. I've never sunk a 4-stroke, but I imagine water in the engine oil can be a beotch to remove with only one oil change.
