My 2004 sportsman 600 has approximately 600 miles on it. I had the
vehicle looked at by a polaris dealer service department. They could not
provide me with an answer. My atv will not stay running with the low
beams or high beams on. It doesn't matter if I am idling or moving. I
have tried replacing the battery and that did not change anything. My
vehicle is charging at 14volts. When I turn my headlights on the vehicle
dies and all electrical items shut off in about 30 seconds of the
headlights being on. In another 30 seconds, if the key is left on,
everything electrical will turn back on and the vehicle will start
normally. Everything else on this vehicle is in good shape and works
correctly. no i have no I do not HAVE A LIGHT KIT , YHE BATTERY DOES NOT LOOSE ITS CHARGE, IT SHUTS OFF AND COMES BACK ON IN ABOUT THIRTY SECONDS, ITS LIKE A RELAY GETS HOT THEN COOLS DOWN,IT CHARGES AT ABOUT 14.VOLTS WHEN RUNNING ABOVE IDLE , LIKE IT SHOULD , I CAN EVEN PUT A JUMPER BOX WITH THE BATTERY AND IT STILL DOES IT, IT DOESNT MATTER IF IM DRIVING OR IDELING ,NOR IF I USE THE HIGH BEEMS OR LOW,WHEN IT DIES THE BATTERY IS STILL FULLY CHARGED IT SHUTS OFF ELECTRICALY , IF I LEAVE TH KEY ON THE WHOLE TIME IT COMES BACK ON IF YOU WAIT ABOUT 30 SECONDS , IF THE LIGHTS ARE STILL ON IT SHUTS BACK OFF, ALSO IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT RUNNING (ENGINE IS OFF) THE SAME THING HAPPENS ,please help travis308Qmsn.com

Check the circuit breakers. My 04 500 has three of them not sure about yours. Sometimes the get corroded even know the are in a black rubber boot or cover. It sounds like a bad breaker that resets after 30 seconds.

It could be a bad or loose ground wire.

I don't know if you would have a heat circuit or fuse in there or not. They operate by shutting off if the temp gets too high instead of blowing like a normal fuse. This could explain why you are getting the shutoff, but no loss of overall power or weakening the battery. If it was a normal fuse problem, your lights would go out and not turn back on.

Check all the grounds on the bike. There should be several. Wire brush them them bolt/screw them back in place.

Also try disconnecting the headlight and work the switch from low to high and see if it does the same thing. As said prior check the fuse box and make sure the circuit breakers are clean and have 12 or more volts in and out while under a load.

You know what? this right here makes me think a circuit breaker is popping and resetting (...In another 30 seconds, if the key is left on,
everything electrical will turn back on and the vehicle will start
normally...)

I would look at the voltage in and out of the breakers while the High beam is on.
