check these out.

make sure chain is adjusted "properly"

Be sure sprockets are straight and not cocked etc

If these are good try a higher octane gas as that can cause it to ping too.

If you can try to describe the sound better and how often it happens, constantly when under throttle etc.

Hey yam350,
Lyndhurst, NJ ...... same here.
Is the chain adjusted properly? If it's too tight it will bind.
If too loose it will skip. Is the sprocket hub on the axle ok?
Do the splines line up properly?

Let us know

Is it there when you pull the clutch in? or when the clutch is out?

It could be your clutch chattering..and either you need to adjust it internally, or replace it.

I've heard those noises too..

the banshee that makin noise is mine yam350 posted it 4 me.the chain is straight, spockets are lined up,no metal in the tranny oil at all! it only does it when i get on it hard(riding)with the clucth out.i change pivot bearings, axle bearings, swingarm. the sprocket hub and alxe splines in good shape. right now i ripped the hole motor apart 2 see the tranny gears and theres nothing i can find wrong with them. my 2 friends banshee just started 2 do the same thing.everything is tight there nothing bad except this dam noise.its sound like the chain is 2 loose and it skips on the teeth of the spockets but that dont happen cause the teeth are fine i rode it all sunday with the noise.

Im going with detonation on this one also. Have you guys done anything to change air/fuel ratio(i.e. pipe, carbs, boost bottle, reeds)? Have you changed gas, or kind of oil? Maybe hotter plug? When you are out there and this noise is happening, try to add a little choke, this will richen the mixture up and should stop any pinging due to lean, or high cylinder temps. If this helps try and jet up or move needle clip down one step. If this aint the problem, i know nothing, said nothing, and whatever you do to me i will never admit it........

it s not jetting i have 300 mains on stocks carbs and run c12 vp fuel.i been running the same jetting 4 the last year with no problem or noise, pinging is not the same as clicking or cluncking.its some thing skiping or sliping.it s started 3 weeks ago at claytons sand pit draging a ct330 4 trax. it s a drive train problem.when it happens the motor moves from the problem(mounts are all good).

DOH!!!

Do Banshee's have drive chains internally? Or are they gear driven? My Honda streetbike has a drive chain from the crank to the trans input shaft. Just a thought...... Here's another stupid one. You said you replaced all the bearings, but could the area that the swing arm mounts to the frame be cracked?? The chain may be tight when sitting still, but with acceleration and the force exerted on the frame it could cause it to flex and loosen up. Otherwise im at a loss..........
