Maybe there is a short in the wire, or maybe it is cut. Follow the wires all the way to check them. How do you know the bulbs are fine?

Thanks for the quick reply David........yes, I have thought of a cut wire. Both light's wiring comes out of the same connector, which is getting power. Following the wires from this connector leads into a big sealed bundle of wiring. I may decide to wonder into the Yamaha dealer and beg for cys of wiring schematics.

You have power at the connector? If there is power at connector the bulbs must light if they are good(Easy sandpits). You actually need a ground also. Probably the bulbs are ground controlled, and need ground to light. I would say check the connector you are at and see if the power comes thru it and so does the ground. More than likely i'd say dave is right, if they both come out of the same harness then you probably have a break in the wires somewhere. If you take the bulb out of the socket you can determine what wire carries the voltage and what is the intended ground path. Follow that wire and you should find the problem(wiring diagrams make this task much easier).

Hope this helps...

WOW....such good ideas and soooo timely. Reminds me of www.dieselstop.com, which I also visit....I own a Power Stroke p/u. Tomorrow I am visiting the dealer and getting the electrical schematics for the quad.......will let everyone know what I found as the problem when I find it.
Thanks.

Solved problem........went to Yamaha dealer......Service Mgr showed me a common problem: Wire loose behind front differential (easiest seen from right side of atv). Bought Tech Manual while there. Came home, checked wire, and sure enough it was loose and corroded. Cleaned and reinstalled and voila: 4wd indicator light works. Tech Manual told me how to be sure overheat indicator light was working, which I followed and it works ok...........so now all four light work fine!!
