I have a 96 Yamaha blaster and it seems to be overheating, I think. Oil is coming out of the oil overflow hose. Is that good? What are some things to look for?

Blasters are air cooled right??? not much there to make them overheat except maybe if its running too lean or the cooling fins on the jug are packed with mud.or maybe a spark plug of the wrong heat range.

Oil coming out the breather? maybe a worn top end (piston, rings, cylinder) pushing to much pressure (blow-by) to the bottom end.

Theres a few good wrenches here that know 2 strokes real well hopefully they will chime in and help out.

Check the trans fluid. It may be contaminated, overfull, or has water in it. I would change the oil in the trans and see what happens for starters. Then take it from there.

when a clutch slips badly,It will heat up and pressure inside the case and will push the oil out the vent hose...Its not an overflow

My money is on that advice right there. On two-strokes, blow-by doesn't push oil out of any hoses.

I think both opinions are worth looking into. Superchicken also makes a good point. It is possible for the clutch to slip and overheat. This could cause the trans fluid to boil and come out the vent pipe. If this were the case, you would see a lot of clutch material in the fluid when you drained it. Also the fluid would smell bunt and be dark in color and /or have a metallic appearance to it.

Eddie what indication do you have that the motor is overheating? I was not aware that you could overheat an air-cooled motor. I would recommend that you invest in a oil injector block-off kit and start premixing oil. Yamaha Blasters are notorious for faulty oil injectors and I have seized 2 blaster motors as a result of faulty or worn injectors. Premixing also provides better lubrication which increases your engine performance and lifespan. That is why you will not find a motocross racer on a blaster that doesn't premix. You can get them for like $30 or less on eBay. I also recommend you use Yamaha 2-R racing premix oil if you decide to do that. Also always remember to use 93 octane gas in blasters. Anything less will wear your motor. Let me know something- Travis
