My ATV rolls when in park, and it is difficult to move into any gears. Any ideas on what the problem is and how to repair it?

is it possible to remove the linkage rod and reach in and move the trans selecter lever by hand to determine if its the linkage binding or an internal trans problem? maybe its just the linkage pivot rusted/frozen???
