Sounds like something wasn't right. Is it melted to the cylinder?? or what's up??

Just hope you are covered under warranty? Or is this an older machine?

soory it took so long for reply havent been around. well its not covered for a warranty its an 86. but i have reason to believe it was my motorcycle shop that caused the problem. they just redone the entire motor and everything was tight(except for the part i didnt check the head) well i ran it wide open for like 15 seconds finally got it into sixth when it bogged. so i doubled clutch and dropped down still bogging so then it just started smoking. and the end result head was barely on real tight. and no the piston is melted to the cylinder but it tried to burna whole threw the piston. is all i had to say abut it when i discovered the problem

it's quite possible the motor went way lean ... I have seen that type of damage done from a lean condition ... if the head was loose, either it wasn't torqued properly or the studs pulled out ... if the motorcycle shop just redid the motor, why is there no warranty ...

Good thought sandpits and this is actually a topic on Rriders currently since a member there had seized his engine running WOT in 6th also.

Seems that there can be a few reasons for this happening but with the bogg described it does seem to be from being leaned out. There was some great discussions in that thread so check it out if your interested in more info etc.

Here is the link meltdown

How loose was the head?

That would be strange if it was not tight before it happend.

Was there any other obvious problems found?

How much break in time did it get after the rebuild?

the head was like if you stuck a ratchet on it and gave it less than 3lbs of pull they were lose except for the back 2, the other strange things were that it finally fired off on the first kick for once(most of the time i have to be pulled) bad ignition, the other strange thing was there was alot of excess oil coming from the pipe, then no blue little smoke like i used to see
for break in this is what the shop told me to do
1. leave idle till head gets to hot to touch(gaskets seat)cool down
2.idle again for 10min cool down
3. idle up and cool all the way down
4.ride slow (no blipping)
5. slowly get it to 2nd but no long.
6. ride through the gears but no WOT or "cracking it open"
7.ride 6th but not cracked
8. ride it cracked any gear like blipping or double clutching
you kno? he told me from steps 7 not to open it real fast like slowly let the bike rev out on its own.
And for rebuild time prolly like 15-20 hours
