i have a 93 polaris 350l and i had to take the starter out to replace the brushes....i had to remove the recoil to get at 2 bolts inside and now i cant figure out how to get the darn thing to recoil....i need help...spent all day today on just that and still couldn't figure it out... i have the haynes manual and it says to just spin the recoil 3 complete turns after the cord is tight and then that should set the tension...but it doesn't....its just not generating tension...i am sure its something simple but i cant figure it out....thanx in advance …..jamie

I have a 95 250 trailblazer and on mine I remove it all from the bike, the thin metal capthat stops the rope and the part it bolts to that bolts on the block. spin it backwards a turn or two until I hear the spring spring then it catches and I spin it the other way until I feel it start to get tension, sometimes it takes a couple tries but it will finally catch, then turn it a good 3 to 4 rotations and bolt the cap down then assemble back on the bike, I've replaced 6 ropes on my bike and this has worked everytime. hope it helps.
