ok this just happened 5 min a go.... took the bike out in the snow to have a little fun was riding good except for some stumbleing when i shifted gears.... well after about 5 min of riding the bike started to act up i looked down and saw my head pipe cherry red... (i put a dg exhaust system on it and rejetted the carb after that ) was running the rmp a little high due to the basicly bald tires on it.... idk what to do never seen this before... rejetting, valve adjustment, anything????? any info on what i can do would be really great...

Did you remember to tighten your carb to the intake after you changed jets? You may have an air leak.

UH,well depending on the thinkness of the metal used in the headpipe,it may just natraly do that...My 450 did that at the dealer...But anyway,a good easy way to check to see if the engine needs to be richened up is when riding it be on the gas about 1/2 throttle and pull the choke slowley...If it livens up you made need to richen it...If it just wants to die on ya,well you may not....Did you open the filter box per the jet kit...If so put the lid back on and see how it runs...Lid on fooling the carb to be richer..

I was going under the assumption the pipe wasn't getting visibly hot until the bike started running poorly halfway through your ride. Is this correct or could the pipe have been glowing even before it began running poorly?

My 450 will glow quite a bit at idle and glow less as rpms increase.

never have taken the airbox lid off th bike(but there is an air filter in there).... when it idles the exhaust cools and stops glowing but when the rpms pick up again it starts to glow again.... it might have been glowing some before the bike started to act up but i never looked till it started to have problems..... had the bike at the orv park(last summer) and it was running fine but it wasnt ridden as hard as it was last night.. (wasnt beating on it just had it at a higher rpm)

If the choke is on some could that be a good possiblity that it being on cause the pipe to glow? I remember starting the bike on full choke then bringing it down to about half but i cant remember if it turned it to no choke... Guy in work mentioned that his cousin ran his truck on full choke and it made the headers on it glow the same way... Probably monday im gonna pull the spark plug see what it looks like, replace it and try running the motor again.... Cant ride it cause there is no longer snow on the roads so i cant get to the park to try it but ill have to figure something out.... Thanks for all the advise!!!!
