Does not help that the guy standing on the hill stops his momentum either. In the post where I found that vid the guy states that he couldnt get a speed run at the hill due to the way the terrain is just before it. I think he could have easily made it even going slow but he panics and throttles it up which bounces it around. Some pretty good things to learn in there.

After watching it again...you have a point.
The guy on the hill....toast!
I still think he needed more speed , maybe that would have moved the guy on the hill.

Yea that guy on the hill deserves a cast on his leg no doubt. Looks like the guy tried to get off on the wrong side also or he lost his balance once he realized something was going wrong.

I thought this at first also, but listening to the audio sounds like the rider never let off the throttle anyway. This guy must have thought his quarter ton ATV was going to power up that hill easily.

Your right I did not pay all that much attention to the sound till you mentioned that. He is def in low and could have gone much faster up that hill in high even with no extra room to hit it.
So anything pretty short and steep = speed and momentum as a best bet?

As usual there is more than one problem with this situation.
Inexperience first. Start with a smaller challenge.
Inexperienced friends second. That guy looks like he is there to catch a softball.
WTF.
I'll bet a paycheck that guy didn't take a rider course.
Like most idiots he had enough money to buy a quad.
Thank God helicopters and planes are very expensive.

Here is what the guy says. I guess he is experienced but the Outty is new for him.

Alright then...now that all you experts out there across the country have given your feelings on my incident, I will set the record straight so you won't have to speculate on what happened.
#1-Spotters are not idiots...they are there for a reason. He had no way of knowing when or if either rear tire would slip into the rut and change my direction. NOT HIS FAULT!
#2-There is zero room to get any kind of momentum going before you start to climb. My approach in these situations is to creep up and let the quad do the work. Unfortunately...the quad wasn't working as it should.
#3-This was not my first trip up this particular hill. My mistake was initially trying to bail out on the right hand side. After realizing that was not the right side to bail on...I was left with one alternative...try to stay on and gas that pig till it got over. Unfortunately, gravity played a roll in keeping me from remounting. The fact that my thumb was in the throttle was no accident on my part, it was intentional.
Now, say what you will but as one reply said..."*beep* happens".
I was lucky not to be injured worse than I was, very lucky.
A deep thigh bruise, right ankle twisted and bruised and bloody, and some very sore ribs, even 13 days after the fact.
I will be conquering this hill at a date yet to be determined. After the quad is repaired and my ribs heal up. High-range full out, no spotters in my way, do or die.

WOW! Thats a big quad!
The approach, speed, rider position, and that freakin' idiot standin' in the way were all wrong.
That guy looked tiny on that beast!
Although I ride 2 wheels I am quite comfortable on an ATV. He could have taken it 2 ways. 1. Longer start, more speed, good momentum. 2. Torque it up, rock crawler style. With his obvious level he should have chosen the first in my opinion. It would take a more skilled rider to crawl up it. Then again I have only ridden sport quads.
It almost looked like he was gonna break that leg.
